Carney Oudendag, B.Ed., ASA, is a mixed media/collage artist and teacher. She loves to teach art, look at art, talk about art and think about the next exciting possibilities lurking in her ‘hoard’ of art materials! Her treasure trove includes: vintage sheet music, old school text books, antique illustrated dictionaries, lace doilies, wasp nests, feathers, field guides, burlap, net onion bags, glitter, old photos, negatives, slides, rusty bike parts …. you get the idea!
With over 25 years of teaching experiences in public, private and community settings, Carney believes that artists must educate themselves for life! Her formal education includes some training at the Alberta College of Art (now ACAD), an education degree with a major in art, and regular attendance at a variety of art workshops.
Carney’s work has been exhibited for over 10 years at the Pynelogs Gallery and Cultural Center and in the themed show, Wings Over the Rockies. Other venues include: The Alcove Gallery, Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, The Kaasa Gallery, Edmonton, NAJA (in conjunction with the Alberta Society of Artists/Alberta Ballet show “Building a Mystery”), Strand’s Old House Restaurant, and the Marion Nicoll Gallery (ACAD) in a collaborative show initiated by friend and fellow artist, Jessica Gowling. Carney has also been involved in “Tour of the Arts” in the Columbia Valley, for 3 years as a volunteer and artist. Her “one of a kind” collaged journals and whimsical cards can be found at Village Arts in Invermere, BC.
The longer Carney is immersed in the “art world” the more she agrees with something Gertrude Stein said, “Art isn’t everything. It’s just about everything.”
Carney is happiest when she is in her tiny studio …. tunes are cranked up, she has a cup of Lemon Zinger tea, and a tantalizing blank canvas is propped up on the easel!
